Use this slideshow to get students interested in your Model UN team. The slideshow includes general information about MUN and the skills students practice by participating in a Model UN team. There are also slides that describe a possible application process. Model UN requires students to complete additional work beyond their regular academic classes, and it is essential to ensure they are committed to the work, which often involves collaborating with another MUN participant on a team.

This is a fun activity to get students acquainted with the Parliamentary Procedures used at a Model UN conference. They practice drafting opening speeches, debating, moderated and unmoderated caucuses, and drafting resolutions. The bundle includes a presentation to step you through the process and worksheets with examples for opening speeches and resolutions. We've also included handouts for important vocabulary and reference for motions and the flow of debate.

This lesson helps students understand the structure of a MUN committee session. Important terms and procedures are covered. The lesson also includes a reference to a video that you can find on YouTube, which is a good resource for students.

This timeline captures the main plot points for the three different stories in American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang. It includes rough dates and allows teachers to discuss the intersection of the stories in a visual way. When the Monkey King leaves with Wong Lai Tsao, the timeline assumes a date of around 1 CE because they head toward the Star of Bethlehem and the birth of Jesus.

This resource includes templates to help students write resolutions for Model UN. There is a print version and a digital version. There is also a word bank handout of preambulatory and operative phrases that students can use for reference as they draft their resolutions. You can print out the word bank or post it to Google Classroom.

There are two different levels of applications: one for new delegates and one for returning or experienced delegates. We have them complete the writing portion in school, but you could have them do it at home and submit the application to you for review. Of course, you can determine your level of rigor, but we accept all students who apply themselves to the application process. Model UN is an experiential learning opportunity, so we keep that in mind as we create our team each year.

This handout guides students through the debate protocols in Model UN. It also helps students participate with a list of appropriate phrases to keep the debate moving through proposals for motions. There is also some important vocabulary included in the handout. There are two versions of this resource. The first is helpful for practice debates at school. The second version has more details for reference at a conference.

This graphic organizer includes questions commonly used to help students locate information about their assigned country. Ideally, we have them complete the research and then write a paragraph that captures the defining characteristics of the culture and economy. They should also incorporate important information that is relevant to their topic. These worksheets were created to help students participate in our MUN practice debate, "Does Pineapple Belong on Pizza?" that is outlined in a Google Presentation that you can find in our store. They instruct students on the elements essential for a strong opening speech and provide them with an example. There is also a worksheet that scaffolds the process of writing a resolution.
