Students choose the numbers they want to work with in each of these problems. This allows students to use numbers that they are more comfortable with using so you can differentiate the word problems for each type of learner. You could consider providing a range of numbers for students to choose from to push rigor.

Have your students increase their understanding of basic fraction vocabulary while relating it to something they all have in their bags, a cell phone! Students will cut out all the vocabulary, definitions, and the cell phone image. Have students match the vocabulary with the definitions/notes and have then glue their definitions down on the phone screen first. You can have them tape or glue the vocabulary word above the definition/notes on their phone. Such a cute way to get them involved!

Have students practice composing fractions with like denominators by rolling dice and adding them together. They will create an improper fraction and change that into a mixed number in the end.

Having math sentence stems/question starters helps students practice using academic vocabulary in their everyday lives. This allows for students to practice and have a better understanding of how questions will be asked on assessments.
