Hands on scientific investigation of SNOW! Have snow outside? Is it a remote snow day? Use this activity so that students can explore the properties of snow including heat of fusion, melting, percent change, salt as a deicer, biomimicry and more. Simple calculations required. Straightforward instructions. Google Form included to collect answers if a remote snow day or can be done on paper.

Students will read articles, listen to podcast, and watch a video about the legendary Alexander Von Humboldt. He inspired Darwin, created isotherms, and contributed greatly to the understanding of biogeography. His travels and scientific discoveries are fascinating and inspiring. This handout directs students to appropriate reference material and asks them to write a 200 word response to several questions after exploring the resources.
