Variable Vault
This inquiry-based lesson helps Algebra 1 or 2 students discover the defining characteristics of quadratic functions by observing, comparing, and reasoning—before formal definitions or procedures are introduced. In this constructivist introduction, students analyze multiple quadratic graphs drawn on the same coordinate scale and use a structured graphic organizer to identify patterns related to function behavior, intercepts, shape, and key features. Students also build understanding through comp

Students learn how to identify polynomial expressions, including what is and isn't a polynomial, learn vocabulary tied to polynomials, and determine the degree of a function from a table of values using the finite differences method. This lesson builds a critical foundation for quadratic functions and higher degree polynomials by connecting polynomial structure to patterns in tables. Students work through guided notes to define polynomials, identify degree and leading coefficient, and classify e

Teaching style

I am passionate about helping students find joy and success in math. In my classroom, students talk about math with their peers and learn by doing. I love an activity-based classroom where students are engaging in math in a variety of ways, grappling with problems and showing up as leaders. Every student has a strength to offer in the math classroom; they just need to opportunity to show it.
