About the store
I have been teaching for over ten years now--from private schools abroad to all-boys charter schools and GT programs in the States, I've been lucky enough to teach a wide range of students from diverse backgrounds. I've taught everything from 7th grade to university. While others may find it overwhelming or boring, I've always loved the curriculum development part of teaching. I love to see how I can make sure the kids are engaged, learning, and challenged.

Creative Writing: Practice with Show, Don't Tell [Distance Learning Compatible]

This quick activity gives students examples on the difference between showing a story and telling a story. It reviews techniques on how to show a story and asks them to implement those techniques for a story of their own. Great and fun way of asking students to focus on details, expand their ideas, and reflect on their writing. Can be used within a creative writing unit/class, or just for fun writing practice in general.

I have been teaching MAUS and the Holocaust for the past five years at least. During our unit, we discuss what is important when telling a historical story, when listening to the story of others, and when trying to understand the human experience. With everything else going on in the world, I wanted to share my unit assessment for this for free and will keep it listed as free for as long as I operate this online store. Teaching style

I am passionate about what I do and try to bring that passion into the classroom. I really want students to be engaged and challenged, but most of all, I want them to step outside their box and comfort zone. I value diversity and I try to act as I preach and bring diversity into the classroom--through literature, through learning styles, and through my approach. I want students to see perspectives beyond theirs and to learn empathy through the stories of others.

My own education history

My parents were in the Army, so I moved around a lot as a kid, which meant moving schools pretty often. It's hard to stay consistent in your learning when you don't go to the same school for more than two years at most. But, luckily, I found a love of learning through reading. I attended East Carolina University for undergraduate and graduate school. I have a BS in English Education and a MA in English. I have a license for 7-12 ELA, as well as a license as a Gifted and Talented Specialist.
