The Fast Food Challenge is to have students create an unhealthy fast food meal and then make it healthy. I have my students use the internet to find fast food menus of their favorite places. You could also go and request menus from the restaurants. This activity can take from 2 days to a week depending if you have the students work alone, in partners or groups. This product contains 2 worksheets per page to cut down on copying and easy fit into interactive notebooks and composition notebooks.

This is a very simple, one site webquest that I use with my fourth graders. It can be used with or without a partner. It looks at specific animals that are either extinct, endangered or threatened. Students read a kid friendly webpage on the animal and then fill in the questionnaire. Using the questions they then produce a poster and give a presentation to the class on the animal. I have included the rubric I use to grade the poster and presentation. Can be used with Brainpop and Brainpop J

This is a simple straightforward form, that can be edited to fit your needs. Since I teach a departmentalized 4th and 5th grade and I have a homeroom, the problem is I have my homeroom the exact amount of time as the other classes I teach. Last year I had a “teacher’s helper” but the kids argued over the job no matter how I chose the helper or the job was not done.
