About the store
I have taught 2nd, 4th and 5th grades. For the last six years I have taught Young Fives, our district's developmental kindergarten. I am currently the longest serving member of the School Improvement Team. My involvement in school improvement goes back to our buildings last audit, where I was one of the teachers selected to be interviewed by the field officers. I am also our schools Crisis Team leader and a member of the Green School Team as well as the Early Childhood committee and the District Elementary Redesign Team (which is looking into exciting changes to ensure a better future for our school district.)

Making Tens Using Unifix Cubes - Pre-K Kindergarten Activity

Created by
Wesley Stanton
A great activity to help young children understand the concept of regrouping to create tens using both hands on materials and recording their work and the numbers they create. This activity helps build number sense and understanding of regrouping. Children use this "worksheet" to record numbers they have created using Unifix Cubes. First students should build a number, making sure to regroup into tens. Then they should draw what they built on the worksheet and record their number in the tens

Experience

I have taught 2nd, 4th and 5th grades. For the last six years I have taught Young Fives, our district's developmental kindergarten. I am currently the longest serving member of the School Improvement Team. My involvement in school improvement goes back to our buildings last audit, where I was one of the teachers selected to be interviewed by the field officers. Teaching style

I am very proud of the work I have done with the Young Fives program, which I have taught for six years. When I was hired for the position, the program was previously only a half-day and there was no curriculum or materials given to me. I created curriculum maps, pacing guides, common assessments, and adjusting standards and report cards to the new Common Core standards. I am also very proud of my work in the classroom. I enjoy seeing the amazing academic growth and behavior improvements the children in my class have shown year after year. Often the children in Young Fives come to us with the most needs, least prior knowledge and most challenging behaviors. We have a lot of fun learning while also instilling routines necessary for school success.

My own education history

After graduating from Trenton High School in Michigan, I attended Eastern Michigan University where I majored in Language Arts with a minor in Structure of Disciplines. I also have a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education from Eastern.
