Read the Room is a fantastic part of a balanced literacy program. In this engaging activity, students search the classroom for words that have the long /ee/, long /ea/ and the short /ea/ pattern. Students write words that they find on the recording sheet. Students then read their words to a partner.
Great variation... Find cheap feather or fancy pens from the Dollar Stores and place in a vase with glass beads and allow students to use these are "magic wands".

This telling time mini-book is a great addition to your time unit. Students can create a personal connection with this concept by creating a personal book about time.
I make 2 copies of each page. Then I run all 6 pages through the copier and book staple the packet. After that I use a paper cutter to cut the booklets in half. Then pass out to your students. It's a fun way for them to have an opportunity to share and shine with this concept.
If you have questions, please e-mail me!
Use this sheet in your reading centers or when introducing Visualizing. It can be used for any story which makes it a versatile addition to your balanced literacy groups and centers.
These "thinkmarks" are great for Math centers and your students' math notebooks. Cut and paste into their folder or notebook for a constant reminder of the kinds of questions strong math students should be asking themselves. Aligned with Common Core Standards.
This will also help students get more engaged in centers as well as encourage reflective thinking.
