Have your students send their iPads on a luxurious vacation while you are teaching! This is a creative way to "invite" (force!) students to place their iPads in a designated spot (on their tables, on a separate table near the door, on a filing cabinet, etc) when they enter the classroom. This does three things: 1-Ensures that everyone has their iPad. 2-Allows students a distraction-free class period. 3-Enables students to efficiently grab their iPad when it is needed. Teaching style

I am the creator of a whimsical and rigorous middle school English classroom. My work in the classroom over the past 15+ years has involved visiting retirement communities so students can write narrative nonfiction, motivating students to write 18,000 word novels in 30 days (for real!), and incorporating food trucks into a rigorous analysis of short stories. I am committed to making middle school not the worst place ever and you can be, too but these critical creative activities!
