This project could be done as an alternative to a classic test or in addition to the test. Review directions with students. Students could work in groups if desired. Provide time to brainstorm and research ideas. Students will create a presentation and then present to their classmates. Those classmates will be given “money” to invest in their favorite project presentation.

This can be used as a group or solo project. Students gather information about pricing and rates of different aspects of a wedding. They put it all together and see how close to their budget they can come. There are two parts to this. In the first part, the students have an unlimited budget. They can give a guess at how much it will cost, but they are free to do whatever they want. In the second part, students must stay within their budget.

STEM Project! This is a great reinforcement activity. It covers measurements (and conversions, depending on your measurement units), angles, velocity, time, momentum. It also allows students to be creative. Students will build a cart and do calculations and then smash their carts against other groups' carts to see who's was best built.

One of the biggest problems with the fossil record is that is subjective. There are variations based on scientist bias and just on plain human error. Use the activity to show how even the same information can lead to great variation in results.

Students research travel costs and create their own budget for a cross country road trip.

This is a great option for sub plans. Students work independently to find and read a journal article and then share their findings with the class using the worksheet that is attached.

After completing a unit on a particular body system, students will write a short paper about a disease of that system that interests them.  This is a simple rubric for that paper, simply interested in getting them doing a little research and seeing why learning about this topic is relevant to them, even if they are not going into the medical field.
