Welcome to Win at Phonics, I'm Stephanie a retired teacher and tutor specializing in supporting youngsters with dyslexia. I love teaching reading and spelling and I particularly enjoy working with younger children. I have worked in a wide variety of settings including state schools in disadvantaged areas of the country and well known English prep schools. I've taught children from Year 1 to Year 8 in British schools which is equivalent to Kindergarten to 7th Grade in the U.S. I now tutor from home, a role that I love!

Welcome to Win at Phonics, I'm Stephanie a retired teacher and tutor specializing in supporting youngsters with dyslexia. I love teaching reading and spelling and I particularly enjoy working with younger children. I have worked in a wide variety of settings including state schools in disadvantaged areas of the country and well known English prep schools. I've taught children from Year 1 to Year 8 in British schools which is equivalent to Kindergarten to 7th Grade in the U.S. I now tutor from home, a role that I love!

Teaching style

I think my colleagues would describe me as calm and patient. I particularly enjoy making my lessons fun as well as educational and love including craft work, movement, games and activities into teaching reading and spelling.

My own education history

I have a degree in psychology and a primary years teaching qualification. I have also trained to teach children with specific learning difficulties and I particularly enjoy working with children who have dyslexia.

Additional biographical information

I currently tutor reading and spelling at home following The Sound Reading System programme created by Fiona Nevola and based on the work of Dr Diane McGuinness, Emeritus Professor of Psychology at the University of South Florida. This is a synthetic phonics programme which follows the same principles as Read Write Inc., Jolly Phonics, Phonics International and Letters and Sounds.
