I am a former elementary school teacher who has also taught 6th and 7th grade math.
As an education consultant, as well as a teacher, I have seen students from grade 1-8 struggle with word problems.
Many programs used in school simply don't give teachers enough word problems for students to work on. In order to gain competence and confidence with word problems, students need lots of practice and support!
