Word Queen

I have 26 years experience in the regular classroom (mostly kindergarten!). My kinders typically exited kindergarten reading on a 2nd grade or 3rd grade level because of my Word Queen Program. I created the Word Queen because of the ever changing and ever more rigorous standards placed on each grade year after year. The Word Queen was designed to eliminate children having a low self-esteem because they may not read as well as others. With my program EVERYONE is excelling with reading! EVERYONE!!!

I taught my kinders using surprise, play, and purpose. Each child experienced literacy in the way children their age are supposed to encounter challenges. Through PLAY! IMAGINATION! PURPOSE! These strategies are appropriate developmentally for this age group and they excel because of it. Using the Word Queen puts the kids in a little world of their own where they interact with her as she tries to get them NOT to learn to read!! That rascal! We are not going to let the Word Queen win! She is not the boss of us! We are going to learn to read whether she likes it or not!

I have presented a workshop at Professional Development in our district as well as reading conferences in Alabama, Tennessee, and Arkansas. I obtained my National Board Certification with a focus in Early Childhood (2003 - 2023). My Word Queen program was studied by the Auburn University head of Curriculum and Development for two years just before I retired and an article was written for publication about its success. I have hosted Workshops to parents to help them better understand how to help their children be successful, confident readers!

DJ is my fantastic husband. Natalie, Ty, and Tucker are my three fantastic children. Six grandchildren and counting! I love nature, biking, walking, and the outdoors! I am a real estate investor and developer and pride myself in helping homeowners stay out of foreclosure!
