Dr. Jess Place has 25 years cumulative experience teaching English to students ranging from secondary school to graduate school. From 2000 to 2020, Jess taught taught 9th through 12 grade college prep and honors English courses. She is gifted certified as well as AP Lit and AP Lang certified. In 2020, Dr. Place retired from the high school classroom to become a college professor and teach master's level English courses for American College of Education. She is also an ELA tutor for students grades 5-12. In addition to her teaching and tutoring practices, she is in the process of writing a book.

Teaching style

Dr. Place fosters creativity and critical thinking in the classroom and supports student-led learning, multimodal instructional practices, standard-based unit design, and social-emotional awareness.

Additional biographical information

Jess is also a certified yoga and meditation teacher (E-RYT 200, RYT 500, CMT) and facilitates a number of yoga classes at various studios across North GA per week. She also leads yoga and meditation retreats. Having practiced yoga since 2016, Jess has been teaching classes since 2019. She lives in a suburb north of Atlanta with her husband, two daughters, three dogs, and one lizard. Coaching is also in her repertoire; having coached volleyball and basketball in the past, now she is a mountain bike coach for her daughter's high school team.
