What Should I Write About? Content Ideas for Common Writing Topics

Tired of repeating the same suggestions over and over again? Here's the alternative: reference sheets for young writers to give them ideas on what to include in a paragraph or paper. Encourage independent work by giving them a recipe for success. These 5 sheets aren't for copying information into their papers; they just guide kids into generating their own appropriate content. The last page explains how to plan, create, and finish up a high-quality piece of written work.

Word Search: Alaska Natives

Help your students learn important vocabulary related to the Alaska Natives, a population of numerous indigenous tribes that settled in the Arctic. This simple, fun activity reinforces concepts of where particular groups lived, aspects of their cultures, etc. Practicing these words will aid students' reading and written expression. KEY INCLUDED. The vocabulary is chosen with GA Standards for Gr. 3 Social Studies in mind. This document was produced using Word 365.

Teaching style

I always wanted to make kids comfortable with challenge, so I used humor a lot (maybe too much?) and an individualized approach. Even though I'm not in the classroom anymore, I still want to help kids become better writers so that they become confident writers as adults. Pretty much everyone has to write sometime, whether it's an essay about how you spent your summer or a police report explaining how three drivers got into an accident.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I was honored with something in grad school, but I don't remember what it was called. Phi Kappa Delta, maybe? Then there's that unresolved dispute with some Eastern bloc judges over the bronze medal in a thesis sentence competition...
