Creative. Flexible. Student-centered. I believe in giving students choice and voice, and I never met a piece of mentor text I didn’t want to break apart and remix. My materials often feature snarky humor, quirky hooks, and structured scaffolds to build student confidence and creativity. I love lessons that spark “aha” moments and invite students to take writing risks.
I’ve spent more than 25 years teaching English at both the high school and college levels, specializing in writing instruction, literature, and curriculum innovation. I’m also a teacher consultant with the UNC-Charlotte site of the National Writing Project, where I help lead professional development for educators who want to strengthen their teaching of writing. Additionally, I have more than 15 years of online teaching experience for high school and college, and I am familiar with a variety of learning management systems. From composition classrooms to ESL to AP English, I’ve done it—and I still love it.
🛎️ A Note from Write On Teacher:
As teachers, we build on the wisdom, generosity, and creativity of those who came before us. After 25+ years in the classroom, I honestly can't always separate where my ideas end and where those of my mentors, colleagues, and professional heroes begin. However, if I am sharing this resource in my Write On Teacher store, I am reasonably confident that the resource is my own.
The resources I share here are ones I’ve created and used with my own students—real kids in my real classroom. If you honestly believe something I’ve included reflects your original work, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’ll gladly give credit where it’s due. After all, we’re all in this together.
