Christmas Countdown Riddle: An Advent Calendar Companion

Created by

This product can be used in conjunction with an advent calendar or alone as a way to count down the days to Christmas. I came up with this because I love the idea of an advent calendar, but I am not thrilled about the idea of the candy and/or toys that usually go along with an advent calendar. I have included a link to our blog, YouCan2Musings, where I have included all the details. There you will find, photos, a link to an instructional video, and tips to craft your own Candy-free/ Trinket-f

Teaching style

I can’t help but repeat the enlightened words of Confucius, “I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.” I am sure, as a teacher, you have heard those words more than once. However, despite the repeated use of such a sentiment, its wisdom is one that I revisit time and time again as I plan learning experiences for my students. I strive to provide multiple opportunities for students to “do”, whether that is through hands on play, or reading, writing and math workshops. While learning this way can be messy and unpredictable it almost always leads to deeper understanding.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Fritzi earned the Crystal Apple Award in 2004 and the Unsung Hero Award in a year or two before that. Shauna won the Washington State University Children's Book Award in 2003 for writing and illustrating a children's book.

My own education history

We both earned our Bachelor of Education degrees from Washington State University and Masters degrees from University of Phoenix.
