Yup, we are a mother and daughter that have decided to give Teachers Pay Teachers a go. Fritzi is retired and lives in Arizona full time. Always ready for a new challenge, throughout her 35 year career she taught a variety of grade levels (K-8), all ability levels, and most subject areas. Shauna currently lives in Montana with her husband and three little girls. She has fourteen years of teaching experience spanning from third grade through eighth grade. She has taught in Nishinomiya, Japan; Washington State; and Montana, For the next two years, Shauna will be teaching third grade at an American School in Casa Blanca, Morocco. She is very excited about this new opportunity for her and her family!

Teaching style

I can’t help but repeat the enlightened words of Confucius, “I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.” I am sure, as a teacher, you have heard those words more than once. However, despite the repeated use of such a sentiment, its wisdom is one that I revisit time and time again as I plan learning experiences for my students. I strive to provide multiple opportunities for students to “do”, whether that is through hands on play, or reading, writing and math workshops. While learning this way can be messy and unpredictable it almost always leads to deeper understanding.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Fritzi earned the Crystal Apple Award in 2004 and the Unsung Hero Award in a year or two before that. Shauna won the Washington State University Children's Book Award in 2003 for writing and illustrating a children's book.

My own education history

We both earned our Bachelor of Education degrees from Washington State University and Masters degrees from University of Phoenix.
