Experience

I was a 5th grade teacher for four years in Massachusetts. During that time, I stayed at school until 6:30/7 pm every day creating new and fun lessons that kids ENJOY! Now, I am a K-5 Math Coach and use my after school time to research and work on my doctorate.

Teaching style

I teach based on the kids' learning styles. In the beginning of the year, I teach them about different styles of learning and they identify which kind of learner they think they are. I then offer differentiated lessons based on those responses. Many of my lessons are hands-on, fun, exciting, and based primarily on understanding rather than memorization and repetition.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Shining Star award at Sunrise Elementary School in 2008. Grafton Everyday Hero award in 2012 and 2013 for my work with special education students. Won the top award in New York State at Mercy College Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa International Award for Prospective Educators

My own education history

I studied mathematics in college and then went on to earn a Master of Arts degree in education and special education. I did my undergrad and graduate degrees within 3.5 years and will never regret that decision because at the age of 21 I began what I love most: teaching. Now, I am pursuing my doctorate in educational leadership and curriculum development.

Additional biographical information

I have a Bachelor's degree in mathematics, a Master's degree in teaching and special education and I've contributed to several Boston based mathematics textbook companies. Currently, I am working on my doctorate. I am also the President of a local math organization.
