Description

Looking for a fun way for your students to practice division? These math riddle activities are aligned to 4th grade math standards and are super engaging for kids!

Students are presented with a riddle and must solve multi-digit division problems without remainders in order to reveal the answer.

WHAT'S INCLUDED?

This resource includes 2 different riddle activities. Each set includes:

  • 14-15 division problem cards
  • Secret code riddle sheet
  • Answer key
  • Digital version

Digital Version

The digital riddle sheets have been prepared for use through Easel. They can be assigned to students to complete on any device. This eliminates the need to print a worksheet for each student, saving ink and paper.

HOW TO USE THIS RESOURCE

To play, print out a set of division cards and place them all around the room in random order.

Give each student a copy of the riddle/recording sheet.

Put on some fun thinking music and send the kids on a math hunt. They will need to find each card, solve the division problem, and record the corresponding letter on their paper. If all the problems are solved correctly, the answer to the riddle will be revealed.

This can be a timed or untimed activity depending on the ability of your students and how much time you have.

You can also use these activities in your math centers. Instead of placing the cards around the room, shuffle them and place them in a stack or spread face-down on the table for students to draw from.

Preparing for a sub? Instead of busy work, include one of these scavenger hunts in your sub file! It's super easy to set up and the substitute will be free to move around the room to assist students.

This resource is aligned to the following math standards:

4.NBT.6

Find whole-number quotients and remainders with up to four-digit dividends and one-digit divisors, using strategies based on place value, the properties of operations, and/or the relationship between multiplication and division. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models. (Grade 4 expectations in this domain are limited to whole numbers less than or equal to 1,000,000. A range of algorithms may be used.)
