Description

Third Grade Problem Solving - Is It Reasonable - This is perfect for distance learning on Zoom or similar formats. On top of that it is powerful when used as direct instruction in the classroom. It teaches the students how to look at answers of problems and using estimation decide whether or not an answer is reasonable or not. Four steps of problem solving are emphasized: Figure it out, Set it up, Solve the problem and Look back and check. This lesson is built on 22 effective teaching strategies based on research. For best results, students should have white boards and dry erase markers. Included in this powerpoint lesson are the following:

  • title slide
  • focus slide
  • objective
    • Students will be able decide if answers to math problems are reasonable.
  • essential questions
    • How can I decide if answers to math problems are reasonable?
  • concept development
  • step-by-step demonstrations on how to find out if an answer is reasonable
  • checking for understanding
  • guided practice
  • problem solving with word problem
  • reward slide
