Fourth Grade Problem Solving - Multiple-Step - This is perfect for distance learning on Zoom or similar formats. On top of that it is powerful when used as direct instruction in the classroom. It teaches students how to solve problems when there is more than one operation required to solve the problem. Students are also taught how to write equations (number sentences) to use as a method to solve the problem. There are 22 effective teaching strategies used in this lesson base on research. For best results, students should have white boards and dry erase markers. Included in this powerpoint lesson are the following:

  • title slide
  • focus slide
  • objective
    • Students will be able to solve problems using “multiple steps.”
  • essential question
    • How can I solve problems using “multiple steps”?
  • vocabulary development
  • concept development
  • step by step demonstrations on how to solve multiple-step problems
  • guided practice
  • problem solving
  • checking for understanding
  • reward slide
