Description

6th grade math wheel notes for multiplying fractions, dividing fractions, ratios, unit rates, box-and-whisker plots (and more) are more engaging with the math wheel format!

What is a math wheel? It's a type of graphic organizer where students:

  • Take notes inside the math wheel
  • Use color, drawing, and doodling to help create memory triggers
  • Complete practice problems in the pattern around the wheel, and
  • Color the background pattern, if desired

Students can keep these graphic organizers in their interactive notebooks all year as mini anchor charts/reference sheets/study tools.

  • The wheels are excellent for reviewing concepts as part of your test prep and are great as intervention tools (blog post about math wheels for intervention here).

This 6th grade math wheel bundle covers 10 topics, listed below.

Each math wheel file includes:

1) Student math wheel(s): THREE versions:

  • Open’ for students to write notes - this version is most flexible, for you to add the notes you'd like
  • ‘Fill-in’ notes, which help control use of space
  • Pre-filled notes for absentees or students who need this option

⭐️Each wheel also comes with 2 formats for each version ~ with a patterned background and without

2) Key with suggested notes

3) Colored sample

4) PowerPoint file with two or more editable templates ~ you can create your own wheels, if you'd like (for classroom use only; not commercial use)

The TEN 6th grade math wheel topics include:

*(2) denotes 2 wheels for that topic:

Features of these easy-to-use 6th grade math resources:

  • Notes sections & examples
  • Guided or independent practice in the pattern around the circle
  • Creative but Structured Format: While math wheels are visually engaging and some may have a lot of content, each one is carefully organized into clear sections. This chunked layout helps students process information step-by-step without feeling overwhelmed.
  • Coloring/doodling opportunity: students can color the background pattern, as well as the headings and doodle arrows, making the concepts a bit more memorable
  • Note about coloring the background (if you use the patterned versions): Coloring the background pattern is just a chance to add some mindfulness to math class. This does not need to be part of the lesson but could be for 'fast finisher' time. Students could also add other notes in the background or color creatively with patterns or outline the shapes, etc.

These are WONDERFUL! We do an interactive notebook in my math class and these have been the perfect edition to our notebook. My students find them fun and simple to fill out as well as fun to color and decorate at the end. This has been a huge help in keeping notes collected and easy to access when reviewing as well as its helped fill free time for fast finishers since they can color these however they want. Great resource, glad I bought the big bundle!

Interpret and compute quotients of fractions, and solve word problems involving division of fractions by fractions, e.g., by using visual fraction models and equations to represent the problem. For example, create a story context for (2/3) ÷ (3/4) and use a visual fraction model to show the quotient; use the relationship between multiplication and division to explain that (2/3) ÷ (3/4) = 8/9 because 3/4 of 8/9 is 2/3.
