Description
Middle school Math students will practice finding the absolute value of integers, comparing absolute values, and use a vertical number line to compare different magnitudes using this digital math activity.
This is a perfect activity to check for understanding of ratio tables during distance learning and students using Google Classroom™. You can share this activity with your students through Google Classroom™ or Google Drive™, which they can type directly onto, and then share back with you! This activity is aligned with the 6th grade Math Common Core Standards.
This activity includes 3 slides. The first slide students will practice fluency questions by determining the absolute value of positive and negative integers. The second slide students will compare various numbers using the inequality symbols: greater than, less than, and equal to. Students must first identify the absolute value of each integer to determine which number has the greater value. The third slide, students will plot 7 different animals on a vertical number line. Next, students will compare the altitude of each animal and sea level (zero). Students will determine which two animals are opposites, which is the furthest from sea level, and the distance between 2 animals on the same side of zero as well as on the opposite sides of zero.
