I simply have my students pick up their page on their way into class. After bell work they can fold and begin coloring the front of their brochure. My only requirements are that students must listen, they must take all applicable notes, and they must stop coloring/doodling when I am finished teaching. They are welcome to finish coloring and decorating after their classwork is complete or at home/in their free time.

I typically give students a few extra problems to complete that they work out on the right side of their notebooks.

Project the template onto your board, screen using a projector or Elmo, or use powerpoint or your Smart Board software. I cut and paste into ActivInspire and write directly on my smartboard.

All of the doodle notes by The Math Detective are amazing for my homeschooled teen. She struggles with math and these doodle notes allow her to learn while coloring. There are fill in the blank activities for all the key concepts. And a practice page. These notes have allowed her to enjoy math again. Thank you so much for this awesome resource!

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Understand that positive and negative numbers are used together to describe quantities having opposite directions or values (e.g., temperature above/below zero, elevation above/below sea level, credits/debits, positive/negative electric charge); use positive and negative numbers to represent quantities in real-world contexts, explaining the meaning of 0 in each situation.
Understand a rational number as a point on the number line. Extend number line diagrams and coordinate axes familiar from previous grades to represent points on the line and in the plane with negative number coordinates.
Recognize opposite signs of numbers as indicating locations on opposite sides of 0 on the number line; recognize that the opposite of the opposite of a number is the number itself, e.g., -(-3) = 3, and that 0 is its own opposite.
