Description

Making density columns with your students will be a blast and it is easy! Guaranteed that they will not forget this activity or the physical properties of matter: volume, mass and density!

This resource contains a lab activity that addresses the physical properties of matter, classifying, measuring and learning the difference between buoyancy and density. A teacher's edition with the answers and student handouts in two different sizes.

HOW CAN I IMPLEMENT THIS AS A DISTANCE LEARNING RESOURCE?

First, make the student response sheet available via email, Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams, etc. Next, gather your materials and share your screen with station sign and the instructions. If available, share your computer screen and play the video on the topic, or send the link for students to view it before the virtual lab. Next, follow the procedure on the station sign to conduct the lab. Allow the students chances to complete their response form as conduct the lab.

If you are currently using a distance-learning platform such as Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams, Edmodo, etc., you already know you can schedule assignments that have attachments. In Google Classroom you can easily attach as a COPY this resource to your assignment. Make sure it is assigned as COPY so that each student has their own and can respond individually.

Also, if you have the ability to email your students, you can simply attach this resource to an email, and have them respond in an email.

Finally, if you have students who do not have the ability to complete online work you can opt to send home physical packets. In this case, you would need to print the resource and have the parents pick it up or mail it directly to their home. At my school, teachers work together to coordinate packets for monthly pick up times.

The activity takes about 45 - 60 minutes. It can be done as a whole class activity or it can be done as a science center. The materials needed are all in your kitchen pantry. You will have taught a great hands-on activity that your students won't soon forget!

Enjoy making density columns with your students!

Sorry but this was a disappointment. The title says it's a virtual lab for distance learning; but, it's not. It's a lab handout for an in person experiment. There is no video provided or anything that would allow this to be a virtual lab where students can manipulate objects. The teacher has to do the experiment as a demo--which we all can do without paying $4 for this. Won't be using this.

Michaeleen thank you for tour response. If you read the description of the resource before buying it explains how it works, and what you need to do to make it work as a demonstration lab for virtual classes. It is meant to be emailed or uploaded to Google classroom as a student response,
