Description
Product Description: Do not assume kids know how to explain the difference between an observation, and inference, and ultimately a hypothesis - they will struggle with this!! This digital Google Drive activity, which will increase student talk and decrease teacher talk, will help your kids learn how observations are used to build an inference using marine science photos. Here's how the lesson would go:
- Teacher presents to the class the directions & photo PPT. This PPT will outline the assignment directions, very clearly, utilizing modeling. Animations allow for teacher questioning of the kids to make sure they understand. Then, the PPT will go over 3 examples of how observations made using a picture can lead to the formation of an inference.
- The teacher should pair the kiddos up (have a plan in place)
- Teacher assigns student groups a set of photos, there are 11 different sets of 4 photos.
- Students work collaboratively, using the provided Google Doc, to create 4 inferences, one for each of the photos included in their photo set.
- Students then trade, and show their pictures to another group and they explain why they arrived at the inference that they did.
