Description

Your students will have a blast working together to create this fun hidden picture mural that is differentiated so all students can work at their own skill level. The completed mural makes an eye catching end of year bulletin board display! This product contains 30 mystery pictures that combine to form a 5.5 foot by 2 foot bugs and blooms theme mural of whimsical flowers, ladybugs, butterflies, caterpillars, bees and birds!

If you don’t have 30 students in your class you can make a smaller mural. Just print out one mystery picture for each student. The mural still looks great even if it is smaller.

This activity suits many grade and skill levels. There are 6 different sets of math questions that you can choose from and there is the option to create your own questions so you can customize the activity to what you are currently working on with your class. The question sets include: a number match which is great for Kindergarten, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and three number equations. You can choose one question set for the whole class to use or differentiate by giving students different questions depending on their skill level.

When students have completed their piece of the mystery picture mural, the teacher can assemble the mural and hang it on a bulletin board or a wall. Instructions for how to assemble the mural are included.

When the mural is complete, you can extend this activity by having students count and graph the different bugs in the mural. A “Bug Hunt” count and graph worksheet is provided to record the data.

Please view the "Preview" for a closer look at the mural and worksheets.

Solve addition and subtraction word problems, and add and subtract within 10, e.g., by using objects or drawings to represent the problem.
Fluently add and subtract within 5.
Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10. Use strategies such as counting on; making ten (e.g., 8 + 6 = 8 + 2 + 4 = 10 + 4 = 14); decomposing a number leading to a ten (e.g., 13 - 4 = 13 - 3 - 1 = 10 - 1 = 9); using the relationship between addition and subtraction (e.g., knowing that 8 + 4 = 12, one knows 12 - 8 = 4); and creating equivalent but easier or known sums (e.g., adding 6 + 7 by creating the known equivalent 6 + 6 + 1 = 12 + 1 = 13).
