Description

Struggling with comparing fractions using benchmarks?  Try this DIGITAL Comparing & Ordering Fractions Game for Google Drive!  This activity includes 20 rounds of hands on comparing fractions with visual number lines! This activity is great for whole group or partner review!  Build number sense and estimation skills through this fun and engaging activity. Perfect for a math center!

This interactive math game has students drag and drop each fraction based on size. They use common benchmarks like "close to one whole" or "less than half" to put 5 fractions in order for all 20 rounds of the game.

Trying to figure out if these digital math games from The Number Diva are right for you and your classroom? Try them out before you buy them with this FREE SAMPLE!

I hear from teachers all the time: "I love your number sorts, but who has time to cut out thousands of tiny slips of paper?! Plus keeping track of it all from year-to-year is a nightmare!" Sound familiar?

For each of the 20 rounds students must sort 5 fractions into 5 buckets:

✓Close to Zero

✓Less than Half

✓Exactly Half

✓More than Half

✓Almost One Whole

By sorting fractions in this way, students will be able to develop their own strategies for judging the size of a fraction. Build in a discussion after each round of the game and you'll hear kids say "I know a fraction is close to one whole when the numerator and denominator are very close together" or "I put this fraction in the 'more than half' bucket because I know half is 4/8 so 5/8 would be more than half." The game lends itself to rich dialogue and countless opportunities for discovery.

This game is designed for computers, chrome books, or iPads! Not 1:1 yet? The game can be used in small groups or as a math center if your computer access is limited.

This product also includes detailed teacher directions for downloading the game, sharing it with your students, and successfully implementing it in your classroom. An answer key is included in digital form and also as a PDF if you'd rather print the answer key and pass it out to students as they finish.

Met expectations
Great value
Standards-aligned
An engaging and effective way to strengthen fraction sense. The use of benchmarks and visual models helps students build conceptual understanding rather than just relying on procedures. The game format encourages active participation and meaningful discussion, making it perfect for math centers or small groups.

This was such a fun way to practice comparing and ordering fractions. My students really enjoyed it and I loved that it was digital to save on printing, and so students could go back and fix mistakes as part of their learning.

Explain equivalence of fractions in special cases, and compare fractions by reasoning about their size.
Compare two fractions with the same numerator or the same denominator by reasoning about their size. Recognize that comparisons are valid only when the two fractions refer to the same whole. Record the results of comparisons with the symbols >, =, or <, and justify the conclusions, e.g., by using a visual fraction model.
Compare two fractions with different numerators and different denominators, e.g., by creating common denominators or numerators, or by comparing to a benchmark fraction such as 1/2. Recognize that comparisons are valid only when the two fractions refer to the same whole. Record the results of comparisons with symbols >, =, or <, and justify the conclusions, e.g., by using a visual fraction model.
