1st & 2nd Grade Project Based Learning! ELA & Math Integrated project! Differentiated and aligned to the standards! Perfect for a sub plan day, distance learning/homeschool, end of the year project, enrichment activity or small group instruction!

This project is perfect for first and second graders! It is an integrated ELA and Math project that is differentiated to meet the needs of on grade level first graders, all the way through advanced second graders. It can be used for enrichment, for small group instruction in both math and reading and makes a great spring/end of year cumulative project!
Another great idea for this resource is to use it as a plan for a sub day! With this easy-to-use, no-prep project, you can simply level your students into 3 groups, and print it for the substitute teacher! It is aligned to the CCSS standards for ELA and Math so you can feel good knowing that your students are getting meaningful standards-based practice even while you are gone!
This resource includes 3 leveled versions of the project in a zip file. Each level is a PDF file.
- Level 1: Kindergarten and First grade standards. Basic reading passages with first grade sight words included. 210-400 Approximate Lexile Level. Text-explicit questions and tasks. Addition and subtraction questions within 20, primarily result unknown with a few compare and change unknown questions. Mostly single-step problems. Aligned to ELA Standards: RI.1.1, RI.1.2, RI.1.3,RL.1.1, RL.1.2,RL.1.3, RF.K.2A, 4F1.2A, RF.1.3C. Aligned to Math Standards: K.OA.A.2, 1.OA.A.1, 1.OA.A.2, 1.OA.C.5, 1.NBT.B.3, 1.NBT.C.4,1.NBT.C.5, 1.NBT.C.6

There are 4 sections in this project.
- The first section includes four pages of math story problems to plan for the field trip to the zoo.
- The remaining sections (Safari Animals, Forest Animals and Aquatic Animals)all include the following:
- Content related to two different animals that could be found at a zoo
- One non-fiction passage with graphic organizer and related questions
- One fiction passage with graphic organizer and related questions or activities
- One page of math story problems related to the animals and section of the zoo
The entire project includes:
- 3 non-fiction passages (elephants, monkeys, seals and sea lions) with different text features (i.e., informational, compare/contrast) and related graphic organizers and questions
- 3 fiction passages (giraffes, koalas, alligators) with different text features (i.e. fictional story/narrative, rhyming poem, acrostic poem and related graphic organizers and questions
- 10 pages of related math story problems
The project opens as a ZIP file which includes:
- PDF versions of each level of the project
- Power Point versions of each level of the project (with easy-to-use "enter text here" boxes for easy online submission). Compatible with Google Drive/Google Classroom
- Directions for Digital Use
