Description

This resource is designed to give your students options for skill building while reading, ones that the students should be able to complete with minimal instruction from you. Some slides include links to literarydevices.net  so they can review the definition of terms they need to understand to complete a task.

(This is part of my Secondary ELA Choice Board Bundle - check it out to save!)

There are three choice boards for you to choose from. The first one is for students to use if they are doing independent reading from home, and each task focuses on different literary elements. The nonfiction choice board provides links to online articles and asks students to respond and to explore a variety of literary techniques that writers use to develop an idea. Finally, the combo board is just that  - a combination of tasks for independent and nonfiction reading.

This paired perfectly with our beginning of the year independent reading program. The options apply to any book, the visuals are engaging, and the activities made students think and connect to the text.

I actually used this with my 5th graders instead of middle and high school students. It was still quite easy to use and I just edited a few of the prompts/pages to better match my students age and skills.

This is awesome. I am using it as early finisher work (extra credit) for my students. With hybrid, I'm finding a large pace difference between my students at home and in the classroom.
