Description
The prompt for this performance task is "You and your friend are planning a party with 3 activities. It will take 15 minutes to set everything up and 30 minutes at the end to clean everything up. Decide on your activities and how long they will take. Then solve."
It is an open ended question where they can practice elapsed time with a table and number line. They have to figure out what time their party ends and how long their party lasted. It is highly engaging for students because they are deciding what activities are happening at their party. During this task, I have number lines and clocks available for students. The students can practice their problem solving skills and use various strategies to arrive at an answer.
CCSS.3.MD.A.1
Tell and write time to the nearest minute and measure time intervals in minutes. Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of time intervals in minutes, e.g., by representing the problem on a number line diagram.
