Description

This Unit/lesson bundle contains READY-TO-TEACH and EDITABLE Notebook and PowerPoint-based Lessons (your choice) and all you need to teach from beginning to end.

"Pollution" is one of 8 units developed for a comprehensive and progressive Smart Curriculum for high school Environmental Science that is nearly all digital and low printing/paper. This unit covers the topics according to the Mind Map image shown. Although this unit and the others in the course function as a general introductory environmental science course, the topic progression is the same as the AP college board's recommended AP topic outline and the lessons are ready for differentiated instruction and discussion as determined by the instructor.
2023 Updates: In addition to regular modifications and link checks, a quick reference "Materials/Equipment" spreadsheet was recently made. :) Teacher Cues to enhance interactivity, in both real and virtual classrooms were recently added.

2024: A "Self-check and Review" is provided in the "Supporting files" folder for this unit.

2025: All link checks and updates completed July 2025. New links and alternatives provided for the year ahead. Printable/sharable Summary Notebook and PDF provided within the Lesson files. Simplified test (for learners with reading challenges) version included. All Free Prep work with your anytime download.

WHAT DO I NEED?

The Unit/Lesson Bundle and each of the lessons within the unit are self-sufficient, with built-in interactivity and hyperlinks. They are designed, by necessity, to be ready for the experienced teacher to teach and reteach after only a brief pre-class viewing. Check out this free sample lesson that illustrates this curriculum and how I teach. An interactive whiteboard/projector/touchscreen is recommended, but not required, in order to most effectively deliver the lessons. Many lessons require internet access for the instructor and students and are optimized for a one-to-one computer environment. These independent activities can often be adapted to a whole-class guided activity or paper-based project if your computer resources are limited to a single teacher computer.

I used your unit on population and it was fantastic! It is structured very well and was very easy to use. I am looking forward to using this unit with my classes as well. Your products are some of the best that I have found for environmental science so far. They are also editable which is good for my APES classes.

NGSSHS-ESS2-5
Plan and conduct an investigation of the properties of water and its effects on Earth materials and surface processes. Emphasis is on mechanical and chemical investigations with water and a variety of solid materials to provide the evidence for connections between the hydrologic cycle and system interactions commonly known as the rock cycle. Examples of mechanical investigations include stream transportation and deposition using a stream table, erosion using variations in soil moisture content, or frost wedging by the expansion of water as it freezes. Examples of chemical investigations include chemical weathering and recrystallization (by testing the solubility of different materials) or melt generation (by examining how water lowers the melting temperature of most solids).
NGSSHS-LS2-7
Design, evaluate, and refine a solution for reducing the impacts of human activities on the environment and biodiversity. Examples of human activities can include urbanization, building dams, and dissemination of invasive species.
NGSSHS-ETS1-3
Evaluate a solution to a complex real-world problem based on prioritized criteria and trade-offs that account for a range of constraints, including cost, safety, reliability, and aesthetics, as well as possible social, cultural, and environmental impacts.
