Description
Exponent notes are engaging and easy to follow with this math wheel note-taking format. Use the exponents wheel to introduce or review basic exponent concepts.
- Students take notes, use color to help with memory, and complete practice problems found around the wheel.
What is a math doodle wheel? A math doodle wheel is a type of graphic organizer where students can:
- Take notes inside the math wheel
- Use color, drawing, and doodling to help create memory triggers
- Complete practice problems in the pattern around the wheel, and
- Color the background pattern
Students can keep these graphic organizers in their interactive notebooks all year as a resource/study tool.
- The wheels are excellent for reviewing concepts as part of your test prep.
The sections of the exponents wheel include definitions and examples related to exponents:
1) Exponents and bases
2) Exponential form, expanded form
3) Squared, cubed, powers
4) Special exponent rules
Included in this exponents resource:
1) THREE versions of the student wheel
- ‘Open’ for students to write notes - this version is most flexible, space-wise (there are lines in 2 of these sections to guide space use)
- ‘Fill-in’ notes, to help control student use of space
- Pre-filled notes; answers to examples and practice problems are NOT on this version
⭐️Each version comes with a patterned background and with no pattern in the background.
2) Teacher key/wheel with completed notes and examples
3) Colored sample of wheel
4) PPT file that’s a blank wheel with background, so you can add text to make your own math wheels, if you’d like (for classroom use only - not commercial use)
Features of this easy-to-use exponents resource:
1) Notes sections and examples (notes are just suggestions, and you can alter them or use other examples that better fit your instruction if you’d like)
2) Guided practice or individual practice: 10 exponent problems in the pattern around the circle for exponent practice
3) Coloring/doodling opportunity: students can color the background pattern, as well as the headings and doodle arrows
Coloring the background, if you use the patterned versions:
- Students don’t HAVE to color at all during instructional time….coloring the background could be an ‘early finisher’ activity, center activity, homework, etc.
- Students don’t need to color every section of the background – part of their coloring pattern could be to leave sections white.
- Students could color sections with patterns instead of solids – maybe polka dots in one section and squiggly lines in another.
- This coloring part is just a chance to be creative and enjoy the stress-relief coloring can provide.
⭐️This resource is combined with a few additional practice activities in the Exponents Activities Bundle.
