This set is great for introducing and reviewing idioms with your students. There are multiple sets of task cards –
-color cards with the idioms underlined
-color cards without the idioms underlined
-black and white cards with the idioms underlined
-black and white version without the idioms underlined.
There are also differentiated recording sheets for your convenience and student needs. Versions of the recording sheet include
-idiom identification (for basic introduction or students who need extra support)
-explain the meaning of the idiom (for students who can easily identify idioms, but are ready for a bit more challenge)
-write your own sentence with the idiom (for students who are ready to use more critical thinking skills; these are the students who easily understand idioms and need more challenge than just explaining what the idiom means. They should be able to explain the meaning of the idiom by writing a sentence that makes sense and uses the idiom correctly.
You can use these with a whole class. Just place the cards around the room and use it like a game of SCOOT.
You can use these in small groups. Either use the first 15 to go with the first page of the recording sheets, or use the first 15 one day and the last 14 the next day.
You could also use just the first 15 to introduce idioms. Use the task cards without the idioms underlined and Recording Sheet A.
You can put these in a center for students to use individually. Just place the task cards in an envelope or put them on a ring. Provide copies of the recording sheets. You can direct students to use the level of support on the recording sheets AND task cards depending on your students’ needs.
If you have more than 28 students in your class and you want to use it as a whole class with each student at one card (for a game of SCOOT), please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will be glad to make a few extra to meet your needs.
Basically, there are many different options of support to choose from with these cards and recording sheets. Pick and choose what works for your students!
