Description

This frog subtraction craftivity is the perfect way to practice whether you are subtracting to 5 or subtracting to 10 this spring! Move the frogs on the log & out in the pond and record the subtraction story by filling in the missing numbers and writing a subtraction sentence. It is easy to differentiate by deciding the number of frogs your students begin with!

IDEAS:

-Use two dice to determine the number of frogs on the log. Add the two numbers together. Roll one dice to determine the number of frogs that "hop away."

-Works for addition to 5 and addition to 10 (or more!) goals

More Subtraction Crafts:

Bumble Bees

Beach Balls

Pirate Gold

Football

Frogs

Butterflies

Bubbles

We did this activity in several sections since there are several pieces to it. I then had them work together as a table to come up with the correct answers. Before we started, we looked up a version online of the song "5 green and speckled frogs." Then we talked about how that was a real world example of subtraction; the frogs jumping off the log into the water. So then we went back to our desks and used dice to come up with our own equations. They represented their equation by showing how many frogs jumped into the water and how many frogs were left on the log. It was so fun and engaging and they all loved it. It challenged them in many different ways, but it was a great activity to help push them to think a little deeper and focus a little more on their work. So fun!
