What others say

"I love these! I used error analysis frequently in class and was hoping to find a set like this to assign for summer review. Students who become adept at identifying errors made by others become more likely to avoid those errors themselves. I am so glad I found these!"

Description

Included here are 75 print-and-go or digital problems aligned to third grade CCSS math standards. For each problem the students will have to solve the problem, find the error, explain the error and therefore decide who was correct! In doing so, the misconceptions third graders often have should be addressed and rectified.

This resource is broken down by strand.

Operations and Algebraic Thinking - 18 problems

Numbers and Operations in Base Ten - 7 problems

Numbers and Operations - Fractions - 18 problems

Measurement and Data - 28 problems

Geometry - 6 problems

There are 2 problems per standard and substandard, for a total of 75 problems. An answer key is included that tells who was correct and a short description of the error for each problem.

This resource is available digitally as a Google Slides presentation. Please note that directions for sharing this resource digitally with students are not included.

Please check out the preview for some samples!

Students need some intervention before they'll be successful with this activity? Try One Step Word Problem RTI for addition and subtraction or multiplication and division.

This product is also available for second grade and first grade!

Tell and write time to the nearest minute and measure time intervals in minutes. Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of time intervals in minutes, e.g., by representing the problem on a number line diagram.
Measure and estimate liquid volumes and masses of objects using standard units of grams (g), kilograms (kg), and liters (l). Add, subtract, multiply, or divide to solve one-step word problems involving masses or volumes that are given in the same units, e.g., by using drawings (such as a beaker with a measurement scale) to represent the problem.
Draw a scaled picture graph and a scaled bar graph to represent a data set with several categories. Solve one- and two-step “how many more” and “how many less” problems using information presented in scaled bar graphs. For example, draw a bar graph in which each square in the bar graph might represent 5 pets.
