Description

This Graph Point Function Sort is an engaging, hands-on activity that helps students see functions come to life. Students receive sets of Graph Point Cards, each card showing one ordered pair (x, f(x)). Working in small groups, they place the points onto a blank coordinate plane, connect them, and watch as the graph of the function takes shape.

Through this activity, students discover that a function assigns each input exactly one output, and that a graph is simply a collection of ordered pairs. The sets include linear, quadratic, absolute value, and cubic functions, each with 8 points to plot.

This resource is helpful for educators because it:

  • Reinforces the connection between input-output pairs, rules, and graphs.
  • Provides a concrete, interactive way for students to explore functions.
  • Works well for whole-class practice, small groups, or intervention
  • Makes learning active, visual, and discussion-driven rather than worksheet-based.
