Candy Sort Task/Guided Notes
In this task students use starbursts and skittles to explore the concept of combining like terms. The notes page gives students the opportunity to solidify the concept using algebraic expressions. NOTE: If using prior to learning integer operations, don't use the last page of the notes.

Halloween and Non-Halloween versions each included in color and black & white.
PowerPoint

Materials Needed for this task
Copies of the student pages:
•Candy Sort Task Page
•Guided Notes
Candy:
•Starbursts & Skittles (original is best because they have “like colors”)
•Pour a small amount of Starbursts and Skittles together into Ziplock bags ahead of time.
Paper Plates or Napkins
•For the students to put the candy on
