Create a Map Includes:

☼ Begin by reviewing map symbols using the two “What’s the Map Symbol?” Worksheets

☼ Have students color and cut out the symbols on the “Map Symbols” page

☼ Then, students glue the symbols into the boxes on the “Map Key” sheet

• Next, students write what each symbol stands for on the line next to each symbol

☼ Attach the map key to a large, blank sheet of construction paper

☼ Then, have students create a map

• Begin by having them draw roads, sidewalks, and paths/ trails

☼ Students use their key to draw the symbols to design their own map!

• Don’t forget to add color and draw a compass rose!

☼ Students practice making a compass rose with the “Compass Rose Cut & Paste.”

☼ Students write about their map on the “My Map” sheet. Attach the writing assignment to their maps for a cute bulletin board display!
