Description
7.NS.A.3. Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving the four operations with rational numbers.
Every year I struggle with getting my students to "decode" math word problems to determine what operations to use. It always seems that students do great with each operation individually but the moment words and mixed review are added the struggle intensifies. This year, I used this word sort which they then cut apart the words, glued on card-stock as a graphic organizer and then used this card-stock reference sheet to complete the following application problems. Students then put their cardstock in their reference binders and I have found them looking back multiple times to help them with word problems beyond this unit.
For the word problems, I included my students' names in the problems and made the problems a little goofy to try to keep them having "fun" with word problems. I am uploading an editable copy so that you can change the names and tweak the scenarios to your own students and classroom.
Thanks for looking, I hope you find this helpful!
