Description

This 5-day project-based math resource applies math concepts in a real-world scenario to teach students about concepts of factors and multiples. In this 5-day unit, students will use their knowledge of factors and multiples to plan a field day. This math project is engaging and authentic. Plus, it's available as both a digital and print resource.

This project-based math resource is aligned with the following 4th Grade Math Common Core State Standards:

  • Gain familiarity with factors and multiples.
  • CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.OA.B.4
    Find all factor pairs for a whole number in the range 1-100. Recognize that a whole number is a multiple of each of its factors. Determine whether a given whole number in the range 1-100 is a multiple of a given one-digit number. Determine whether a given whole number in the range 1-100 is prime or composite.

This resource is available in both Printable & Digital Google Slides versions.

What's included in this resource:

•Background Knowledge: Using a KWL, students will build background knowledge around planning a field day.

•Factors & Multiples Concepts: Using the included instructional pages, students will learn vocabulary.

•Practice with Factors: Students will learn how to find factors and practice finding factors.

•Planning Activities: Using the learned concepts, students will choose activities for their field day.

•Finding Factor Pairs: The students will learn how to find factor pairs, practice finding factor pairs, and use this concept to create teams for field day.

•Finding Multiples: The students will learn how to find multiples (including divisibility rules), practice finding multiples, and use this concept to purchase field day supplies.

•Prime & Composite Numbers: The students will learn what prime and composite numbers are, practice finding rime and composite numbers, and use this concept to choose snacks for field day.

•Wrap Up: Students will organize volunteers, design a trophy, review vocabulary, and write up a review of their field day decisions.
