Students practice story problems with these ready-made pages. Students have a five step process to solving each story problem: read the problem; act it out; draw it out; number sentence; write it out in words. Have your students become great story problem solvers with this resource!
Resource Prep: Copy problem solving sheets individually or in a booklet form on regular copy paper.
Note: I have included three different covers if you are using the book form. After copying the sheets arrange the problem solving sheets so they match up with the math standards you are teaching at the time. At the beginning of the year we do these sheets together as a class, later on in the year students try to do them on their own first, and then we discuss them as a group when they have completed the sheet.

Math Story Problem Solving Pages: Either copy math problem pages as a booklet or individually. Students solves story problems in the following ways:
→ Read Problem: First, read the problem to be solved as a group. Discuss what the question is asking you to do.
→ Act It Out! : Second, act out the problem either as a group or with the use manipulatives. Students love to play the parts of the story problem so that is what my class did mostly.
→ Draw It Out! : Next draw the problem out either by drawing the items it said or using a figure for that item (such as circles, dots, etc.).
→ My Answer! Write out the number sentence that went along with the story problem.
→ Write It Out!: Finally, talk about what words were needed to write down and explain how the problem was figured out. Complete sentences were used including the use of number words for the numerals.
Note: For younger students I would not do this part right away at the beginning of the school year, but you will be amazed at how quickly students can do these sheets at the end of the year..
Blank Problem Solving Sheets: Blank problem solving sheets with the Write It Out! part, along with a blank sheet without the Write It Out! part are provided in case you would like to make your own story problems.
