Description

Learn all about measurement with this 2 week, hands-on math unit for 2nd grade. This unit covers measurement with both standard and metric units.

This unit includes full lesson plans, student task cards, games, and recording sheets. It is designed to be used as week long, centers-based exploration units.

Week 1:

Monday: Build schema and review how to use a ruler to measure.

Tuesday-Thursday: Students will visit a series of centers, practicing measuring with inches using games and task cards. Directions and suggestions are included for each station. (Recording sheets are included with each center.)

Friday: Students will use both inches and centimeters to measure and compare the two.

Centers/activities can also be spread out throughout the week if needed.

Week 2:

Monday: Review the previous week and learn about other types of units, including feet, yards, miles, meters, and kilometers.

Tuesday-Thursday: Students will visit a series of centers, practicing measuring and reading word problems with interactive notebook pages and task cards. Directions and suggestions are included for each station. (Recording sheets are included with each center.)

Friday: Students will show what they know by playing measurement scoot.
