Description

These resources allows students to practice making a table, or chart, to organize information in multi-step math word problems.

Making a table is a great way to show students how to break the problem down and focus on each piece of information, and it allows students to see the information in a less overwhelming way. Especially in story problems where not every piece of information is given up front, making a table can help students work through the problem without getting lost.

Included in this mini-bundle are the following two products:

Multi-Step Problem Solving "Make a Table" Strategy Group Activity

In these activities, students work together in small groups to solve a word problem. Each student gets one information card, and they must put their given information together to find the missing information, then complete the table to solve their word problem.

  • Three sets of group activity cards
  • Three corresponding recording sheets
  • Answer key

Multi-Step Problem Solving "Make a Table" Strategy 12 Task Cards

This set of 12 task cards include multi-step story problems where students are given multiple pieces of information. There are four differentiated recording sheet options, each one varying in the level of guidance students are given as they create their tables:

  • Recording Sheet A gives students the most guidance. The tables are created and set up to where students only need to fill in the numbers.
  • Recording Sheet B has the tables created with only the top labels filled in, so students have to organize all of the other information themselves.
  • Recording Sheet C includes completely blank tables. Students will have to determine what information they are given and organize all of it themselves.
  • Recording Sheet D is blank, so students can draw their own tables.

I really liked the fact that it had differentiated answer worksheet for the students. Very useful as it has group and individual task cards. I hope to see something similar for the other problem solving strategies.
