This resource includes foldable notes and an introduction activity.

Foldable Notes: The notes start by defining whole numbers. integers, and rational numbers and provide students with a blank Venn Diagram to fill in. On the inside are three different examples of Venn Diagrams for students to practice classifying.

Introduction Activity: This is a simple activity that helps students understand Venn Diagrams and the relationships between the different sets.

  • Start by talking about whole numbers and listing some examples.
  • Discuss how integers are whole numbers and their opposites, so the whole numbers circle should go within the integers circle.
  • List some integers that are not whole numbers.
  • Discuss how integers and whole numbers fit the definition of rational numbers, so both circles belong within the rational numbers circle.
  • Finally, fill in some examples of rational numbers that are not integers or whole numbers.

Print the notes front to back.

Answer key included.
