Description
This resource helps students understand the function and nuances of parallelism as a rhetorical choice. Designed for AP Language rhetorical analysis essay, the resources get students engaged with rhetorical analysis at the word and sentence level--and ready for the AP Language exam (and SAT!).
What's included:
- 41 colorful slides with clear examples of parallelism and the overall structure of the Rhetorical Analysis essay
- 13 Quotes (examples of parallelism), with each quote printed on an 8 1/2 x 11 paper, so that quotes can be displayed around the room at learning stations.
- A "Parallelism Quote Analysis" graphic organizer where students analyze the examples (quotes)
- A Google Slides version of the activity, with each quote on a single slide, followed by a space for analyzing the quote. This Slides version is a great way to facilitate a digital stations activity for absent or remote/hybrid students.
All editable; digital or printed.
I place the 13 quotes around the room at learning stations. I pair students to move through the stations in partners, with each student completing the "Parallelism Quote Analysis Graphic Organizer" individually at each station. I normally have students move through 6 stations out of 13, so each student would receive 6 copies of the graphic organizer. After they are finished, I have students post their graphic organizers at each station. Then, students observe peer analysis of each quote in a gallery walk. If completing this activity digitally, students can complete the Google Slides version and engage in a digital gallery walk.
