Description
Students practice applying probability rules in this self-checking color activity. Students use contextual interpretation and probability notation to solve problems on probability rules (complement, addition, and multiplication) using data presented in two-way tables and Venn diagrams. Students are given an answer bank and can self-check their work if their answer is not in the bank.
This fun twist on worksheets engages students by allowing them to choose their own color scheme and enjoy a little artistic creativity as they reinforce probability concepts. This coloring activity is great for subs, independent work, early finishers, exam review, and extra practice.
Answer key included!
Objectives:
1) Practice solving for the conditional probability of A given B by applying the general multiplication rule: since P(AΒ andΒ B) = P(A | B)P(B), then P(A | B) = P(AΒ andΒ B)/P(B).
2) Practice working with and interpreting conditional probabilities.
3) Practice applying the complement rule and interpreting the answer.
4) Practice applying the general addition rule and interpreting the answer.
Common Core Standards:
HSS.CP.A.3: Understand conditional probability of A given B as P(A and B)/P(B) and interpret independence of A and B as saying that the conditional prob of A given B is the same as the probability of A, and the conditional probability of B given A is the same as the probability of B
HSS.CP.B.6: Find the conditional probability of A given B as the fraction of Bβs outcomes that also belong to A; interpret the answer in terms of a model
HSS.CP.B.7: Apply the addition rule P(A or B) = P(A) + P(B) β P(A and B) and interpret the answer in terms of a model.
