Description

Updated August 2020

This is a step by step lesson on how to add and subtract multi-digit whole numbers using standard algorithm. This lesson includes a preview which leads into the lesson. It has numerous slides for the interactive learning part of the lesson and a process for students to practice independently. This lesson displays nicely on a whiteboard for whole group instruction or computers and tablets for small group instruction.

This resource contains 45 full color slides that focus on teaching students how to use standard algorithm to add and subtract. The preview ask students what is regrouping in math. This leads into the interactive learning part of the lesson. Several of the slides are great visual aids to help differentiate instruction for all learners through modeling, chunking and repetition. There is a process at the end of the lesson for students to practice independently. This process can be used as an exit ticket to see what the students have learned. There is also an addition and subtraction word problem. Be creative and do what works best for you and your students.
