Students read eight different mini paragraphs about candy, identifying the structure used to write each one. Then they color in the images according to their answers.

This activity can be used as a review, quick assessment, re-teach, in a reading center, on sub days, with partners, in person or from home. Easy enough to self-grade simply by comparing their colored-in design to the answer key!

What’s so important about text structures? Research shows that tackling and understanding the way an author has organized their writing increases students’ overall reading comprehension.
